In advance of the series premiere, there was a notably ardent backer. "This is the beginning of a kind of transformation," said John Solomon. His Just the News platform will host the ex-PM's new audio shows.

Forging Alliances in the Maga Media Ecosystem

Compatriot supporters, featuring a pro-Reform adviser, assisted in her set up the Liz Truss Show. Its staging is adequate, though simple. The show has attracted ten thousand followers in her initial seven days and her premiere achieved sixty-seven thousand views across the same period.

It is a humble beginning, but in partnering with John Solomon, the former PM is being entering a established right-wing media network creating and spreading Make America Great Again themes. Its obsessions encompass alleged censorship by the established press and a goal to dismantle a shadowy government apparatus – a force that the ex-PM holds responsible for the abrupt termination of her short and troubled leadership.

"The platform is not famous past the Maga-verse, but it does have influence there, largely because of John Solomon, who provides analysis on pro-Trump shows like Bannon's 'War Room' podcast and has even spoken with Trump," commented Alex Hinton, who has extensively researched the Maga movement.

A Divisive Associate

The former PM's foray to import Maga media to Britain has aligned her more closely to contentious individuals such as John Solomon.

He founded Just the News in the wake of scrutiny after he was accused of pushing false stories about Joe Biden's anticorruption effort in Ukraine, as well as disputed reports about one-time diplomat to Ukraine.

Solomon's reporting were echoed across the pro-Trump outlets, with Solomon serving as a common interviewee on Sean Hannity's influential cable news broadcast. Trump himself promoted his stories.

The journalist published the Ukraine claims in a set of articles for the political newspaper The Hill, after having been re-designated as an opinion writer after colleagues complained about his work. His claims were key in Trump's demand for the Ukrainian government to investigate the Biden family in 2019. Those demands led to articles of impeachment against the president. The Senate later acquitted the president.

Weeks after Solomon left the Hill in autumn 2019, the outlet stated it was conducting a examination of his work about Ukrainian matters. It determined he had relied on untrustworthy contacts and stated he "omitted key facts about main Ukrainian informants, such as the reality that they had been indicted or were under investigation."

Entering the Ecosystem

Solomon's own TV and radio guest spots are a sign of the right-wing media network Truss is entering. Solomon mentioned his backing of her new show on a broadcast he helps run on the conservative cable network, a conservative television outlet that is the base for the pro-Trump commentator ex-Trump strategist Bannon and on which Tucker Carlson also features. Truss has already interviewed Steve Bannon on a debut installment.

Through her association with the journalist and his outlet, she has become a small part in a much wider network of right-wing publications that routinely amplify each other's content.

Solomon's own podcast and Real America's Voice show have frequently included figures such as influencer Mike Benz, a rightwing influencer whose arguments against USAID was referenced by the X owner as reasoning behind dismantling the international development organization.

A Global Media Play

While Truss's stilted style and political travails have been mocked within the UK, certain American analysts do not dismiss her bid to rebrand as a UK offshoot of the pro-Trump media ecosystem.

"You have to take individuals such as her seriously, despite the fact that you may not want to take them literally," said a Democratic strategist, who worked in the Biden White House.

"It was evident how in the last election cycle President Trump leveraged that ecosystem to get his message out. Undoubtedly that network spreads and shapes debate abroad. It appears quite apparent to me that the circumstances in the United Kingdom are akin to what enabled this non-mainstream media network to prosper here."

Professor Alan Finlayson, said the digital right-wing media sphere was already making its presence felt in the UK.

"Online platforms is borderless," Finlayson remarked. "There exists a sort of environment within which ideas travel – sometimes taking an extreme form and other times more moderately – but which is connected."

The academic said the rise of the internet-based right wing in the UK in recent times meant the "chance to have a increasing influence is significant."

A Transatlantic Ambition
